Silence Splitter

Split recordings into separate audio files using detected silence. Adjust the threshold and minimum silence length, preview the parts, and download them together as a ZIP.

How to Split Audio by Silence

  1. 1

    Upload your recording

Choose an audio file containing speech, music, or sound effects separated by quiet sections. You can play the original file before splitting.

  2. 2

    Adjust silence detection

Set Silence Threshold and Minimum Silence to control detection. Use Minimum Segment Duration to join short parts without losing sound, or set it to 0 to keep each detected section separate.

  3. 3

    Split and download ZIP

Click Split by Silence, then click a part in Result to listen. Click it again to pause, or choose another part. Download all completed files together in one ZIP archive.

Turn Quiet Gaps into Separate Clips

Remove qualifying silent intervals and keep the remaining sound as ordered audio files.

01

Split Audio at Silent Gaps

Detect quiet gaps and turn the remaining audio into separate clips without manually placing cut markers.

  • Separate Segments
  • Original Order

Illustrative example

Original

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

Detected silent gaps are removed. The remaining sound becomes three separate clips in the original order.

02

Control Where Audio Splits

Adjust threshold and minimum silence duration to choose which quiet gaps are used.

  • Adjustable Threshold
  • Minimum Silence
  • Review Before Download

Illustrative example

Silence Threshold · -40 dBMinimum Silence (s) · 0.3

Short gap · 0.1 s

Split gap · 0.8 s

A short gap stays inside a clip. Only a gap that meets the minimum silence length separates the sound.

03

Review Individual Audio Parts

Click an exported clip in the result list to play it. Click the same clip to pause, or select another to switch playback. Review the ordered parts before downloading the archive.

Separate Recording Sections

Organize voice takes, sound effects, or other clips separated by quiet gaps into their own files.

Quiet gaps separate successive voice takes or sound effects into files you can organize.

Silence Splitter FAQ

What is a silence splitter?
A silence splitter detects sufficiently quiet sections of an audio file and uses them to create separate clips. This tool removes the qualifying silent gaps from the exported clips, then places the remaining parts into a ZIP archive.
How is this different from Silence Remover?
Silence Remover can join all kept audio into one file, trim only the edges, or split at silence. This page opens the split workflow directly. Short sound sections can be joined using Minimum Segment Duration, and the ordered output files are saved in a ZIP.
Does this cut in the middle of a silent gap?
No. This tool removes detected silent intervals and groups the remaining sound according to Minimum Segment Duration. Audio Splitter has a different Silence mode that can cut near the midpoint of a quiet gap while keeping that silence.
Can I change how silence is detected?
Yes. Silence Threshold controls how quiet the audio must be, and Minimum Silence sets the shortest detected gap. Minimum Segment Duration joins short sound sections after removing gaps; set it to 0 to disable grouping. A recording shorter than the minimum is still kept.
Will every sentence become a different audio file?
Not necessarily. The tool uses quiet gaps, not speech recognition, to determine the parts. If sentences are connected without enough silence, they may stay together. A long pause within one sentence may also create a separate clip.
Can I listen to each audio part before downloading?
Yes. Click a part in the result list to play it, click it again to pause, or choose another part to switch playback. The list keeps the saved result's order even if you change the current settings. Use Download ZIP to save all parts together.
What if there is no silence or only one audio part?
If no qualifying silent gap is found, the tool explains that nothing can be split with the current settings. In some recordings, trimming detected silence leaves only one audible section, so a ZIP with one clip can still be valid.
Are my files processed online or uploaded to a server?
Audio is processed locally in your browser, not sent to a remote audio-processing server for splitting. Large recordings and many split parts still depend on browser memory and the current processing limits of your device.
