Give Audio a Smooth Start and Finish

Fade audio in for a gentle opening or fade it out for a smooth ending. Control each end without cutting your recording.

01

Set Fade In and Fade Out Independently

Enable fade-in and fade-out independently. Both start at 2 seconds, with shorter defaults for short audio. Turning a fade off keeps its entered time but excludes it from preview and export.

  • Fade audio in, out, or both
  • Keep the original duration and middle volume
  • Export MP3 or 16-bit PCM WAV
02

Soften Podcast Introductions

Ease a spoken introduction into a recording. A short fade can soften the opening without moving the first words.

  • Start with a short fade time
  • Compare the voice in Original and Preview
  • Keep fades clear of important syllables
03

Fade Music In and Out

Add a fade in to introduce a song or fade music out for a smooth ending. Adjust each duration while keeping the full track.

  • Try the 1s, 2s or 5s presets for enabled fades
  • Use a fade-out alone for an ending
  • Leave the middle of the track at its original volume
04

Finish Presentation Audio Smoothly

Let a narration or background clip end gently. Keep the full recording and choose how long its final fade should last.

  • Preview directly inside the fade-out section
  • Check the exported result before downloading
  • Keep your previous download while adjusting settings

Audio Fade In and Fade Out FAQ

What does Fade Audio do?
This free audio fade tool adds a fade in to raise the volume gradually at the start or a fade out to lower it at the end. Set each duration in seconds. The tool uses a linear volume curve and keeps the full recording without trimming or moving any section.
Can I fade audio without Audacity, iMovie, or Premiere Pro?
Yes. You can add fade in and fade out to audio directly in your browser without installing an editor. Choose your file, set each fade duration, and preview the effect before exporting MP3 or WAV. This tool edits standalone audio files; it does not open Audacity projects, iMovie projects, or Premiere Pro timelines.
Will fades change the length or pitch of my audio?
Fades change the volume envelope at the ends of your recording. They do not change its speed or pitch, and they do not cut any audio. MP3 encoding can add normal padding, so a player may show a small difference in duration.
Can I hear the fades before exporting?
Yes. Select Preview to hear the current fade settings, or Original to compare the source. Playback and seeking use the current audio position. The Result player plays the last exported file, which may use earlier settings.
Does adding a fade reduce audio quality?
Fades deliberately reduce volume at the start or end. MP3 export also re-encodes the audio with the selected bitrate. WAV export uses 16-bit PCM. Preview and export use linear fades, but browser playback and encoding can sound slightly different.
Is my audio uploaded to a server?
Your audio is processed on your device and is not uploaded. The browser uses Web Audio for preview and downloads the FFmpeg processing program when export needs it. The program CDN supplies software; it does not receive your audio.
Which audio formats can I use?
You can choose MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG, or AAC and export MP3 or WAV. Playback depends on your browser and the input codec. The tool accepts up to 2 channels and 48 kHz. Unsupported or damaged files show an error.
How long can a fade be, and what are the file limits?
Enabled fades together must fit within the audio duration, and at least one must be above zero. Both default to 2 seconds; short audio uses shorter defaults to avoid overlap. Enter times to 0.01 seconds. Input limits are 200 MB on desktop and 100 MB on mobile. Output memory limits can also prevent export.
Can I use just one fade or change settings after export?
Yes. Uncheck the fade you do not need. Its time stays in the field but does not affect preview or export. Presets change the times without changing your checkbox choices. Changing an enabled setting keeps the previous result available. Click Apply Fades to create a new file. Only a successful export replaces the last download; identical effective settings reuse it.
