BPM and Key Finder FAQ

How does this song key and BPM finder work?
Choose a supported local audio file. The tool samples sections of the recording to estimate its tempo and musical key automatically. Results come from audio analysis in your browser, not verified metadata supplied by the artist. No manual beat tapping is needed.
How accurate is the BPM finder?
BPM is an estimate. Syncopation, weak beats, tempo changes, and live recordings can make detection ambiguous. A track at 90 BPM may also feel natural at 45 or 180 BPM. Half-time and double-time values are calculated references; check the beat by ear before mixing.
How do Camelot codes and compatible keys help with mixing?
Camelot pairs a number with A for minor or B for major. Suggested keys are adjacent numbers with the same letter, plus the other letter at the same number. These are mixing references; listen to each track because matching codes do not guarantee a smooth transition.
Can this key finder help with Auto-Tune settings?
Use the estimated song key and major or minor mode as a starting point when setting Auto-Tune or other vocal tuning software. Check the result by ear before applying it. This tool does not correct pitch or detect every individual note in a vocal.
Can I find BPM from YouTube, Spotify, or SoundCloud?
This tool analyzes local audio files, so YouTube, Spotify, and SoundCloud links are not supported. Choose a song or beat saved on your device to estimate its BPM and key. It does not download streaming audio, identify song titles, or search songs by BPM.
Why are BPM or Key sometimes Unknown?
The detector needs consistent rhythm or tonal evidence. Short clips, noise, complex arrangements, or an unclear major or minor mode can leave the result inconclusive. Unknown means the analysis could not support a reliable estimate; it is not a guessed key or tempo.
Can I find the BPM and key of an MP3 file?
Yes. Choose MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG, AAC audio with 1–2 channels at 8–48 kHz. The BPM and key detector reads the file locally. Analysis also depends on the encoding and your browser’s decoder, so a file that plays normally may still be unavailable for analysis. Some browsers require compatibility processing, which is limited to 12 MiB and 6 minutes and may stop at lower limits to protect device memory.
Is this a free alternative to the Tunebat analyzer?
This independent online tempo finder also estimates song key and Camelot code. It is not affiliated with the Tunebat key finder. No signup is needed, and audio stays in your browser. Analytics and error reports do not include your file or its name.
