How to convert audio to AAC

  1. 1

    Select audio files

Choose compatible MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, OGG or AAC inputs. The batch workspace checks each recording before starting the conversion.

  2. 2

    Set AAC output and bitrate

AAC is selected by default at 192 kbps. Change the bitrate for the AAC stream or select an alternate output format.

  3. 3

    Download AAC streams

Run local conversion and review each file's status. One uploaded file uses Download to save the AAC stream directly. Multiple uploads use Download ZIP for successful conversions, with separate downloads available in each completed row.

Export raw AAC audio from supported files

Encode audio as an AAC stream in an ADTS container for workflows that request this file type.

01

Create AAC files with ADTS framing

Selecting AAC writes an AAC-coded audio stream in ADTS format, not an M4A or MP4 container. This distinction matters for players and applications that request a particular type of AAC file.

  • AAC/ADTS default output
  • No MP4 container in the AAC file
  • Other formats stay selectable

02

Control the AAC encoding bitrate

Choose one of the supported AAC bitrates to balance size and encoded quality. Higher numbers typically use more storage, but they do not improve detail removed by an earlier lossy codec.

  • 192 kbps as the starting value
  • Six options from 64 to 320 kbps
  • Lossy encoding is explicit

Use the right AAC container

An AAC file and an M4A file can contain audio compressed with AAC, yet their containers differ. Use the M4A output button if the destination app requires MP4-family audio files.

  • AAC uses ADTS framing
  • M4A uses an MP4 container
  • Check destination compatibility

Export multiple AAC files in one visit

Process each input in order using local FFmpeg, review per-file status, and keep completed results for download. Changing to another output format affects new conversions, not already completed AAC streams.

  • Independent errors and retries
  • Download individual AAC streams
  • Bundle completed results in ZIP

AAC file conversion questions

What kind of AAC file does this tool create?
When AAC is selected, the encoder produces AAC audio with ADTS framing and an .aac extension. It does not write an MP4 container. To get AAC audio inside an M4A file, choose M4A in the Output Format selector instead.
Is AAC a lossless audio format?
No. The AAC encoder used for these exports is lossy, meaning it removes some audio information. Converting WAV or FLAC to AAC can reduce file size, but it does not preserve every original sample. Use suitable lossless output if preservation matters.
What are the batch size limits for AAC conversion?
On desktop, you can select up to 10 audio files with 200 MB of combined input data. Mobile permits 5 files and 100 MB total. The output budget and available browser memory may further limit lengthy recordings.
Why does AAC sometimes fail with a particular recording?
The AAC encoder supports specific sample rates and channel arrangements. Some unusual inputs exceed these requirements, and bitrate settings must also be valid for the source. Such files show an error rather than receiving an incorrect AAC download.
Does changing an MP3 into AAC restore its quality?
No. Converting between lossy codecs means decoding and re-encoding the audio. Information already removed from the MP3 does not return. Even when you choose a high AAC bitrate, the new file may be bigger without sounding more detailed.
Can every phone or player open an .aac file?
No. Many players support AAC audio but expect it inside M4A or MP4 rather than an ADTS .aac file. Choose M4A when that is what the destination requests. Always verify the container and codec requirements of the receiving application.
How do I change the AAC bitrate before processing?
AAC starts at 192 kbps, with six choices from 64 to 320 kbps. Select a bitrate before the next conversion. Completed downloads keep their original settings even if you change the selected bitrate.
Does the AAC converter send my files to a server?
No. The audio is decoded and encoded with FFmpeg running in your browser. The engine code may be fetched on first use, but selected recordings are not uploaded to a conversion service. Save completed AAC files before leaving the page.
