How to convert audio to OGG

  1. 1

    Choose source audio

Add supported audio files to the batch workspace. Review each recording while the browser checks its format and playable metadata.

  2. 2

    Adjust OGG quality

OGG is selected by default with Vorbis quality Q5. Choose a quality level from Q0 to Q10 or select another output format.

  3. 3

    Create and download OGG

Run the conversion locally and track progress for each file. Save a single-file OGG result with Download. For several inputs, use Download ZIP to bundle successful results or download individual rows.

OGG Vorbis conversion with adjustable quality

Export audio in an OGG container using the Vorbis encoder and its quality-based controls.

01

Encode audio as OGG Vorbis

OGG is a container format that can hold different codecs. This page creates OGG files using Vorbis, so it does not promise Opus or any other OGG codec as an output.

  • OGG Vorbis as the default output
  • Compatible OGG container
  • Five other output formats available

02

Use Vorbis quality instead of bitrate

The OGG setting uses Vorbis quality values from Q0 through Q10, with Q5 as the default. This is quality-based variable bitrate encoding; it does not produce one exact bitrate or guaranteed file size.

  • Quality levels Q0–Q10
  • Default quality Q5
  • Export size depends on the source

Prepare files for OGG workflows

Convert compatible recordings for applications or projects that specifically request OGG Vorbis audio. Some browsers and players may not support this combination, so check your target environment before sharing.

  • Create standard Vorbis streams
  • Keep source recordings unchanged
  • Verify playback in the target app

Handle multiple OGG exports together

Convert files locally, one at a time, with independent results and failures. Download successful OGG files separately or build a ZIP; completed items remain when you change settings for later tasks.

  • Individual downloads

OGG Vorbis conversion questions

Is an OGG file the same as an OGG Vorbis file?
OGG is a container and can hold more than one audio codec. This converter uses the Vorbis codec when OGG is selected. It does not generate OGG Opus, and an app supporting one OGG codec may not necessarily play the other.
What does the OGG quality setting mean?
OGG output uses Vorbis quality-based encoding, with Q5 selected initially. Values range from Q0 to Q10. Higher values generally increase bitrate and file size, but the exact rate depends on the sound, so no fixed output size is guaranteed.
How many audio files can I convert to OGG?
The desktop batch supports 10 inputs totaling up to 200 MB, while mobile supports 5 inputs totaling up to 100 MB. Long or complex sources may still exceed decoding, output or memory limits even when the uploads fit.
Is converting FLAC to OGG Vorbis lossless?
No. FLAC encodes audio losslessly, but the Vorbis encoder discards some sound information to reduce size. Choose FLAC or WAV output if you need to preserve decoded audio samples within the supported sample-precision rules.
Can I select a target bitrate for OGG?
Not on this page. Vorbis output offers Q0 through Q10 rather than a bitrate field, because it uses quality-based variable bitrate encoding. If you switch to MP3, M4A or AAC in Output Format, the relevant bitrate selection becomes available.
Why might an OGG file not play in my audio editor?
Playback and editing support depends on the application's OGG demuxer and Vorbis decoder. Even if your browser completes the export, a particular device or editor may reject it. Check the target application's accepted formats before relying on OGG.
Will converting OGG audio again make it sound better?
No. Re-encoding an existing lossy OGG source cannot restore information removed in the original encoding. A higher Vorbis quality level controls the new export but may increase its size without making the underlying source any more detailed.
Can I download all converted OGG files as one ZIP?
Yes. Each completed row has its own download, and Download ZIP collects all successful results in the current list. If you switch output formats later, the archive may contain mixed extensions; failures and unfinished items are excluded. For a single-file list, use Download to save the audio result directly without a ZIP.
