How to convert audio to FLAC

  1. 1

Add the audio you want to convert

Choose supported WAV or compressed audio files, then review the input list before exporting your recordings to FLAC.

  2. 2

    Choose an output format

FLAC is selected by default. You can switch outputs before conversion; FLAC accepts compatible integer PCM but rejects unsupported precision.

  3. 3

    Create and download FLAC

Start local batch conversion and review each result. A single uploaded file gets a direct FLAC Download. When the list contains multiple files, Download ZIP packages successful outputs; you can also save each row separately.

FLAC conversion for your workflow

Encode supported PCM audio to FLAC while preserving the limits of the source.

01

Encode audio in FLAC format

FLAC stores decoded PCM losslessly and may use less disk space than uncompressed WAV, depending on the source content. It cannot restore details already removed by an MP3 or AAC encoder.

  • Lossless encoding of decoded PCM

  • No lossy bitrate control

02

Prepare supported WAV recordings for storage

Convert integer PCM WAV files to FLAC for convenient storage of compatible recordings. Bit-depth and codec validation take place before export, and unsupported sources show an error rather than an inaccurate file.

  • Supported 16- and 24-bit PCM
  • No 32-bit float FLAC output
  • Keep an original copy for archiving

Understand what lossless really preserves

Encoding to FLAC preserves the decoded samples it receives within supported precision rules. A lossy source remains lossy even if its new container is FLAC; its missing information cannot be recovered by format conversion.

  • Avoid additional lossy output encoding
  • No invented audio restoration
  • Clear precision restrictions

Export a collection of FLAC files locally

Convert supported inputs in order and review progress per file. Change formats for later batches without losing completed downloads; ZIP contains the actual successful outputs, not the original files.

FLAC conversion questions

Can I turn MP3 or AAC into lossless FLAC?
The resulting FLAC encodes its decoded samples losslessly, but the MP3 or AAC input has already lost detail. Converting that source to FLAC cannot reconstruct missing frequencies or recover original mastering quality. Use an original lossless source when possible.
Which source formats does this FLAC converter accept?
You can select supported MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, OGG and AAC files. Conversion depends on the real codec and metadata inside each file, not just the extension. Damaged sources or formats that cannot be decoded will show an item-level error.
What file limits apply to FLAC exports?
The list accepts up to 10 files on desktop or 5 on mobile, with combined input budgets of 200 MB or 100 MB. Large decoded audio can exceed output or browser memory limits, even if the inputs fit.
Why does 32-bit floating-point WAV fail?
The current FLAC conversion path supports integer PCM up to 24-bit but does not accept 32-bit float or 32-bit integer PCM as-is. The converter rejects unsupported precision rather than silently changing it. Use WAV output for supported float or 32-bit sources.
Does converting WAV to FLAC make the audio sound better?
No. For compatible PCM sources, FLAC can store the same decoded audio samples while using lossless compression. That may save disk space, but it does not improve the sound. Actual savings depend on the recording and sample characteristics.
Why can my FLAC file be larger than my MP3?
FLAC uses lossless compression of decoded samples, while MP3 achieves smaller files by discarding audio information. An MP3 converted to FLAC may become much larger without improving sound quality. Choose MP3 when small files matter more.
How do I download a batch of FLAC files?
Each completed output has a download link. Download ZIP collects all successful conversions in the current list, including outputs from other formats you chose later. Failed, cancelled and unfinished items are omitted, and ZIP size is limited. For a single-file list, use Download to save the audio result directly without a ZIP.
Do FLAC conversions remain private?
Selected audio is processed by an FFmpeg engine in your own browser, not uploaded to a conversion API. The processing code may download on first use and be cached. Your results disappear when the page reloads or closes, so save files first.
